Terri joined our community in 2018. She is an artist (those who have survived the vagaries of life and learned to adjust our sails to the winds are artists). But at that time she did not have a grammar or means of communicating and transforming her experiences and ideas into visual form.
Terri committed to the process of designing her canvas and working to understand values and hues. Her paintings grow in strength with each work as Teri’s trust and understanding in the process. The process is rational, we add a bit of the Sacrament of Mystery (which is each person’s experience of life) and the artist emerges!
Looking at Teri’s work one sees the clarity of brushstroke and discipline of shapes and values clarify in each successive painting. Each painting is stronger and more defined and visually lush. Teri is proof that the more one’s commitment to the process, the more exciting and mysterious the work becomes.
Teri is a pleasure to work with because she wills herself to grow and is willing to take rational risks on canvas. This is where growth and transformation occurs on our canvas and in our lives.
Look and become amazed and saturated with the feel for paint and edges that Teri is developing.
The Artist in Bloom community led by Virginia Cascarilla has provided me the opportunity to explore oil painting. Until joining the Artist in Bloom community, I had never taken an art class because I could not draw realistic representations of objects and living beings. I found out you do not have to paint photographic images of objects to achieve paintings you are proud to hang in your home or give to a relative or friend. I feel no embarrassment in the class. Virginia and my fellow artists support my efforts and guide me to produce oil paintings. I like to say “my art is a work in progress.”
It’s never too late to learn a new skill which provides so many benefits from patience and humility and to many new friendships. My brain synopsis appreciate the stimulation of viewing life through different lens—color and shapes.
